I've seen people die from alcoholism, and it is a disease, no one would choose to die such a miserable death. I think the toughest part of starting AA Pandora Charms is when you first have to admit to yourself you are powerless over alcohol, that is a powerful moment when you admit that to yourself and then others. We all wanted to believe that we had this under control and could make a choice to drink a little less and manage our choice. When we can be a little more humble and admit that one drink is never enough, yet too many, we can save our lives.
No-one is powerless over alcohol and to look to a higher power is nonsense, you only have to look to yourself. Saying its an illness is the oldest excuse in the world, believe me, I've used it many times, but to stop drinking you need to look at your deeper self Cheap Pandora Jewellery and muster up all the will power you can. Only you can do it. I say that as a 57 year woman who has been drinking to excess for over 40 years and, whilst I understand employing all the help you get is beneficial, including this site, you cannot give it the status of 'disease'. Cancer is a disease. Make the choice not to drink again and you can save your life. I know its not easy, but if I slip again I know it will be my fault.
I came into this conversation a lil late but I have a few cents to put in. Alcoholism IS NOT A CHOICE, msspike. Its not a choice-do you think I wanted to wake up every day with a hangover? I do agree with you in one respect, I dont think AA is for me either-no I have never gone- but I dont want someone else's opinion of what they believe to be true ( religion ) and I dont want to be preached to. I have that "addictive personality" I can Cheap Pandora Beads overdo just about anything given the chance, but when that urge comes over me to drink, the choice is mine whether I get in my car and go to the liquor store, buy it and consume it. I used to tell my husband that I can't stop drinking and he would simply say "if it wasn't in the house, you wouldn't drink it". I can tell you now that Ive been sober over 4 months that he was 100% right.
